TEDx Kisumu Countdown: Creating a Zero-Carbon World

Our commitment to advancing and realizing the SDGs for a more sustainable future is the driving force behind our partnership with TEDx Kisumu Countdown 2023 whose theme captures three of the SDGs [Climate Action, Sustainable Cities and Communities and Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure]

TEDx Kisumu Countdown is a first and one of its kind events set to be held on the 26th August 2023 in Kisumu County, Kenya. It is part of a Countdown, a TEDx and Leaders’ Quest collaboration that aims to champion and amplify the bold ideas and underinvested solutions that can bring us closer to achieving a zero-carbon world.

The Countdown event aims to showcase innovative ideas and projects that can help Kisumu City and other cities achieve net zero emissions, adapt to climate impacts and empower the community to act on climate justice while still meeting their development goals and agenda.

The theme being “How can we make a difference? -Innovating for climate conscious cities” will allow key industry players and exhibitors to share stories, insights and actions on how we can tackle climate crisis at an individual, community, organizational and systemic level.

One of the activities set to take place on that day is the countdown challenge competition which will allow innovators, entrepreneurs, change makers to pitch ideas for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing resilience to climate impact. Winners will receive mentorship, funding and exposure to scaling up their solutions.

The event already has a lineup of key industry leaders who are ready to share their thoughts and insights in regards to Climate Action; The line up of speakers include:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Apart from speeches, the event will also feature fun and engaging activities that are meant to steer up the climate action conversation while giving room to fun.  Some of the activities will include;

  • A Climate Action fair – Attendees will have an opportunity to learn about and support various initiatives and organizations working on climate change mitigation and adaptation in Kenya.
  • Climate Art Exhibition – Local artists will have an opportunity to showcase works that reflect their perspectives and emotions on climate change.
  • Countdown Challenge- The challenge will involve innovators, entrepreneurs and changemakers from Kisumu and beyond to pitch their ideas for reducing green-house gas emissions and enhancing resilience to climate impacts. [ The winners will receive mentorship, funding and exposure to scale up their solutions.
  • Climate Pledge Wall – Attendees will write down their commitments and action to reduce their carbon footprint and contribute to a greener future.

The TEDx Kisumu committee is calling upon all climate change champions, activists, Innovators, Civil Society Organizations and the community at large join in this countdown initiative, a worldwide movement to accelerate solutions to the climate emergency.
